Erma Bombeck (1927-1996) was a journalist whose humorous commentaries on everyday family crises (pronounced "CRY-seas", plural of 'crisis') struck a chord with American readers: Her daily column was printed in more than 800 newspapers.

In "Daddy Doll Under the Bed", a short personal essay, Bombeck uses humor and exaggeration to describe her father.

Read Bombeck's piece, "Daddy Doll Under the Bed" beginning:

"When I was a little kid, a father was like the light in the refridgerator. Every house had one, but no one really know what either of them did once the door was shut."
