Lesson 3:  Writing a Research Paper/Creating a Research-Based Product

Selection 2:  Synthesizing Your Notes & Presenting them

synthesizing: combining what you already know with new knowledge to create a new understanding
Big Idea: Research projects and papers always have a goal. In your case, your goal is a specific topic (chosen by you) with a focus you developed through your pre-research process (identifying key words; writing research questions). Your work established a purpose for the research.Your research should have led you to come conclusions. Your next step is deciding how to present the information in a way that will appeal to your audience (your classmates and/or the general public).

Assignment: Complete your next step: make these decisions/answer these questions:

  1. What do you want your audience to know and understand?

  2. Which aspects of the topic require you to take a persuasive stance?

  3. To be persuasive, which rhetorical techniques will you use? (Choose three).

  4. What perspectives, ideas, or images will be good evidence to help you with your purpose? (Choose three different ways to represent your information. ) In addition to a research article, you should consider the following ways of representing information: data tables, images, music, interviews, cartoons, infographic, fictional text (creative things you write).

Submit your answers on your assignment sheet. Your answer will receive full points for specific answers that use your evidence; the terminology for nonfiction (literary and rhetorical terms); and use strong grammatical structure. Each question will need at least two sentences.
