I realized that I had come to my own terms with the desert, but my soul was thirsty (Kingsolver 218).

Setting: The Lake of the Cherokees in the Ozark Mountains is a bit of paradise for the travellers. Esperanza begins to "thaw" and the characters enjoy a day of relaxation and peace for a change. There is a bit of "home" here for all of the characters.
