Proctored Exams:  Even though students are permitted to travel while taking a course with the Online Campus, all students must be available in person to attend the mandatory midterm exam and final exam at the dates/times/locations as scheduled. Students who are unable to attend the exams are ineligible to earn course credit. The list of specific dates for the summer online program can be found on this site: Summer Online Campus.

Daily Synchronous Attendance:  Students cannot be excused from attending the daily synchronous class. Travel/Transportion must be scheduled around the student's daily class time. Synchronous class times will be assigned the Friday immediately preceding the first day of Summer Learning. All class times will start between 8AM and 2PM Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). All students must be available during this time window.

Daily Work Submission:  Students cannot be excused from daily work submission deadlines. All due dates and times (EDT) will be posted in Schoology. Failure to meet deadlines because of travel will result in an administrative referral and potential removal from the course. Missed work will result in a grade of 0% F.

• By regulation, students accumulating absences equivalent to 2+ days-worth of attendance are ineligible to earn course credit and will be administratively removed without a refund—any combination of missing synchronous classes or missing work submission counts toward accumulated absences.

Summer Refunds: Students who are unable to access the course due to international travel must withdraw by day 2 of the course. There will be no refunds after this deadline.

Weekly Synchronous Attendance:  Students cannot be exempted from attending each weekly synchronous class. Students missing class for an approved FCPS live performance or sporting evening must provide prior notice to their teacher and receive a make-up assignment for missing class. Synchronous class times will be announced by the teacher. All students must be available during this class time.

Work Submission:  Students cannot be excused from work submission deadlines. All due dates and times (EST) will be posted in Schoology. Failure to meet deadlines will result in an administrative referral and potential removal from the course. All missed work will result in a grade of 0% F.

• By regulation, students who miss 15 consecutive school days of attendance and work submission will be administratively unenrolled from the FCPS Online Campus program.

Laptops:  Due to increased security risks for hacking, students are not permitted to travel internationally with their FCPS-issued device. If students opt to travel with the FCPS laptop, it will not function correctly once they travel outside the US. FCPS does not provide technical support for any devices outside of the US.

• Check the personal device you will use while traveling to ensure the device meets the requirements listed in our Technology Checklist.

Websites and Software:  FCPS security policies specifically block international access to instructional sites and materials from outside the US. There are also many variables at play when accessing sites from other countries, and FCPS cannot guarantee that users will be able to access sites from outside the US.

• Students must ensure that they can access all FCPS instructional sites on the laptop they intend to use for their coursework and synchronous class. Check the device prior to traveling, and again at each location they visit while traveling.
• FCPS staff members do not provide support for any student's personal device. Students and parents are responsible for troubleshooting access to secure US-based sites while students travel overseas.
• Zoom:  The FCPS Zoom default settings block access to FCPS Zoom from outside the US.
  • Notify Your Teacher:
    • After you notify your teacher of your travel locations, your teacher will add an override to the Zoom class that will permit you to attend from the country(ies) of travel. Failure to inform your teacher means you will not be able to attend and may be withdrawn based upon the attendance policy (above).
    • For regulatory reasons, users in some countries are currently unable to access Zoom services. Zoom and FCPS cannot override the US government's list of sanctioned countries.
