Required Software & Hardware

All students must have a webcam for their weekly synchronous class with the Online Campus.

Personally Owned Devices (not FCPS-issued).
The minimum technology requirements for your Online Course:

*If you have Microsoft PowerPoint or the Microsoft Office Suite, then you do not need the app/viewer.

**MAC support will not be provided by FCPS, but students can use MACs for their online classes with outside tech support.

FCPSOn Devices (FCPS-issued student computers).
If you are using an FCPSOn device, this software is already installed for you. If you feel that something is missing, see your School Based Technology Specialist at your local school of attendance.
The minimum technology requirements for your Online Course:

  • Email: all FCPS communications with students will default to the student's @fcpsschools.net email address. This is the preferred communication method for securing student safety.
  • Reliable Internet (JavaScript and Cookies must be enabled in your browser)
  • Access to FCPS Schoology LMS
  • Microsoft Word and PowerPoint software
  • Access to additional software such as:
  • Functioning Zoom connectivity, with headset and microphone. Test your Zoom client setup in the Zoom Meeting Test.
    • Students will NOT log into Zoom directly. Students can only access Zoom links from within the Schoology LMS. Please go into your Schoology course, Zoom button on the bottom-left of your Schoology menu.
  • A scanner, scanner applet, or Schoology Mobile App

See your course syllabus for any additional software requirements specific to your online course.

Basic Skills

It is essential that you view these items and learn to complete these tasks on the device you intend to use for your Online Campus course.
You should know how to do the following on your computer:

FCPS Schoology LMS

Your online course is located in FCPS Schoology Learning Management System (LMS). The course will not be available until your Online Campus teacher has contacted you.

In order for you to log on to your online course, you need to have an FCPS user id and password.

  • FCPS students: your User ID is your student ID, and the password is the one used during the preceding school year.
  • For non-FCPS students: once your registration has processed and courses have been created in the FCPS Student Information System, a student ID will be issued to you. Your teacher will be able to provide this when s/he contacts you prior to the start of the course. Be sure to respond to your teacher's email, request your Student ID, and confirm your FCPS Schoology LMS access as soon as you receive that initial teacher email.

To access the FCPS Schoology LMS, log in at https://lms.fcps.edu/.

All FCPS Schoology LMS accounts are linked to students' FCPS network account.

  • To change your FCPS password, go to Student Password Change
  • To reset a forgotten password, go to Student Password Recovery
  • If you are still having trouble with your account, contact the Online Campus via email and provide your Name and Student ID# along with a request to reset your password.

Preferred Browser for the Schoology LMS: Google Chrome is the recommended browser for use with the FCPS Schoology LMS. If you encounter a problem using one browser, try another browser to see if the error is browser-related.

FCPS Google Accounts for Education

Many Online Campus courses use the FCPS Google Accounts for Education.

For both FCPS students and non-FCPS students, your FCPS Google Account for Education uses the same userid (student id) and password as your network account for the FCPS Schoology LMS.

Login to your FCPS Google Account here: http://www.fcpsschools.net/

  • To change your FCPS password, go to Student Password Change
  • To reset a forgotten password, go to Student Password Recovery
  • If you are still having trouble with your account, contact the Online Campus via email and provide your Name and Student ID# along with a request to reset your password.

Email

Email is the main way that teachers will communicate with students and parents. All FCPS communications with students will default to the student's @fcpsschools.net email address. This is the preferred communication method for securing student safety. Students are required to check their @fcpsschools.net email address daily.

  • You must know how to check and send emails, as well as how to save attachments.
  • You will need to check your email account multiple times during the day.
  • You will not submit work through email, as all work is submitted directly through the FCPS Schoology LMS course.
